Writing mechanics
Writing is clearer when everyone follows the same formatting rules. These basics keep Tendoo’s content polished and consistent.
Capitalization
Element | Rule | Example |
---|---|---|
Headings | Sentence case | “Manage your settings” |
Button labels | Title case | “Create Account” |
Labels and inputs | Sentence case | “Email address” |
Punctuation
- Use periods in full sentences.
- Avoid punctuation in button text unless absolutely necessary.
- Use em dashes (—) for breaks in thought — not hyphens.
✅ "Save your work — we’ll handle the rest."
Lists
- Use bullets for clarity.
- Keep each item parallel (start with the same type of word).
- Use punctuation consistently (only if full sentences).
- Add your details
- Confirm your email
- Start exploring
Numbers & Dates
- Use numerals for numbers 10 and up (spell out one through nine): “five files,” “12 items.”
- Use clear date formats like “June 21, 2025” — avoid numeric formats like “21/6/25.”
- Avoid regional ambiguity unless you're localizing.
Special Characters
- Don’t use ampersands (&) in body text — write “and” instead.
- Use straight quotes (
"like this"
) — not smart quotes — in code and examples.
